The project 'Coordination of the production of important active substances' is a further module for sustained improvement of the security of supply with medicines in Germany. It aims to unite the existing data on supply, availability and demand to enable the federal institutions to achieve valid prognosis of the supply and potential risks factors. 

Crucial for this procedure is the alignement of the available data combined with an automatic evaluation to avoid an overload and to distinguish between non-critical and critical shortages.

Additionally, the project is deemed to yield a coordination office which shall contribute to the diversification of supply chains by mediating between manufacturers and marketing authorization holders. Also it is planned to hold meetings with the affected stakeholders on a regular basis to encourage liaison within the health care sector and thereby bring the security of supply into the focus of attention.
