Medtronic Physio-Control has issued a Field Safety Notice concerning the Quik-Combo test plug which is used with the external defibrillator Lifepak 20. Failure to disconnect the test plug from the therapy cable prior to patient use may result in the user confusing the test plug signal as the patient waveform. The software that is compatible with 2005 American Heart Association (AHA) / European Resuscitation Council (ERC) guidelines includes audible and visual alert prompts in this case.
